Tragic news has emerged. Rojin Kabaiş, the student who had been missing for 18 days in Van, has sadly been found deceased. Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya confirmed that her body was found on the shore of Van Lake near Molla Kasım village.
Rojin Kabaiş, a 21-year-old freshman at Van YYÜ’s Faculty of Education, had moved from Diyarbakır to Van after enrolling. She was last seen on security cameras on September 27, leaving her dormitory to visit Van Lake’s shore. In the footage, she is seen in sweatpants, using her phone while passing through a turnstile. Unfortunately, after 18 days of searching, authorities discovered her body.
On the 13th day of the search, her headscarf was found along the shore of Van Lake. Meanwhile, a coordinated search effort involving the Provincial Police Department, Provincial Gendarmerie Command, Coast Guard Command, AFAD, fire brigades, the Red Crescent, and volunteer search and rescue teams continued. On that day, they received a report of a body near the Mollakasım neighborhood in the Tuşba district. Upon investigation, the body was identified as that of 21-year-old Rojin Kabaiş.

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya issued a statement on social media: “Sadly, our student Rojin Kabaiş, who went missing on September 27, 2024, after leaving her dormitory in Van, was found dead on the shore of Van Lake near Molla Kasım village after being missing for 18 days.
