Israel’s Deadly Strike on Vehicle in Saida Kills Three

An Israeli strike on a vehicle in Saida, southern Lebanon, killed three people and injured several others. The Lebanese National News Agency (NNA) reported that the attack took place near the Evveli military checkpoint. The vehicle was completely destroyed, and a fire broke out, requiring civil defense teams to put it out.

Following the attack, nearby roads were closed as emergency teams responded. Witnesses described significant destruction and expressed shock at the sudden violence.

UN Peacekeepers Injured Nearby

The attack happened close to a United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) convoy patrolling the area. According to UNIFIL’s statement, five peacekeepers from the Malaysian unit suffered minor injuries from the nearby blast. The Lebanese Red Cross provided immediate assistance, and injured personnel received treatment on-site.

Casualties and Lebanese Army Statement

The Lebanese Army confirmed that three civilians in the vehicle were killed. Seven others were injured, including three Lebanese soldiers at the Evveli checkpoint and four UNIFIL peacekeepers. The army condemned the attack as “unprovoked aggression,” mourning the loss of innocent lives.

International Response and Tensions

UNIFIL expressed concern over rising tensions in southern Lebanon, urging restraint from all sides. The organization has operated in Lebanon since 1978 to maintain peace along the Lebanese-Israeli border. This attack raises fresh concerns over escalating violence in the region, drawing international attention.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to Saida State Hospital, while investigations into the attack continue.
